Choose and configure a music source

Configure YouTube, local-file or Spotify playback and choose which source RearSilver Stream Suite uses.


Requirements

• RearSilver Stream Suite is installed.
• The Control Hub can be opened.
• You have a YouTube playlist, local music files or a configured Spotify account.
• An internet connection is available when using YouTube or Spotify.

Steps


Step 1 — Open the Library

In the Control Hub, select Library in the sidebar. The Library shows the available YouTube, local-file and Spotify music sources, along with the currently active source.

Step 2 — Import a YouTube playlist

To use YouTube, paste a YouTube or YouTube Music playlist URL into the YouTube fallback playlist field, then select Import fallback playlist. Wait for the Library to show the imported playlist and track count. This playlist supplies music whenever the request queue is empty.

Step 3 — Add local music

To use music stored on your computer, select Add local files to choose individual tracks or Add local folder to scan a folder and its subfolders. The Library shows the number of local tracks that have been added. Select Clear local library if you need to remove the imported local tracks and start again.

Step 4 — Prepare Spotify playback

To use Spotify, install and open the Spotify desktop app. Spotify Premium is required. Complete the Spotify connection in Suite Settings under Accounts before using the Control Hub playback, queue and request controls. Browser-based Spotify and other Windows media sessions are not supported as the active Spotify source.

Step 5 — Select the active source

In the Library, select Use YouTube, Use local files or Use Spotify. The Active source indicator updates to show the source RearSilver Stream Suite will use for playback. You can return to the Library and select a different configured source at any time.

Step 6 — Choose fallback startup behaviour

Open Suite Settings and select Music & Requests. Under Fallback playback on Hub launch, choose whether a saved YouTube playlist or local library continues from the previous track or starts from the beginning. You can also keep the library order or shuffle it when the Control Hub launches. Spotify keeps control of its own live queue and shuffle state.

Step 7 — Confirm the source works

Open Now Playing and use the playback controls to confirm that the selected source is available. Check that the expected track information appears. If Spotify has no active playback, start a track in the Spotify desktop app and try the Control Hub controls again.

What success looks like

• The intended music source is configured.
• The Library shows the expected playlist, local tracks or Spotify source.
• The Active source indicator shows the selected source.
• Track information and playback controls work in Now Playing.
• The saved fallback startup behaviour matches your preference.

Common problems

• A YouTube playlist cannot be imported: Confirm that the computer is connected to the internet and that the pasted URL is a valid YouTube or YouTube Music playlist URL.
• No local tracks appear: Select Add local files or Add local folder again and confirm that the selected files remain accessible.
• Spotify is unavailable: Confirm that Spotify Premium is active, the Spotify desktop app is open and the Spotify account is connected in Suite Settings.
• Active source shows None: Configure at least one source in the Library, then select its Use button.
• The wrong source plays after launch: Return to the Library and select the intended active source.
• A YouTube playlist or local library starts in the wrong position or order: Open Music & Requests in Suite Settings and review the fallback startup and order settings.
• Playback works but music is not heard in OBS Studio: Configure OBS Music Capture for the selected player. RearSilver Stream Suite does not change stream, recording or VOD audio routing automatically.
